CHHAPRA

Chhapra is the city and headquarters of Saran district in the state of Bihar, India.
The city is situated near the junction of Ghaghara and the river Ganges. Ramphul,
son of Soobhanee and kaboutree, was born in village tarrowa/tarwa in Zillah
Chhapra. At the age of 31, he migrated to Mauritius as an indentured labourer
to work on sugarplantations. He was employed by sugarbaron and slaveowner
E. Montocchio of Argy, in the district of Flacq.
Ramphul married Busseea Hurrill  from Ecroignard. His wife gave birth to a daughter
named Luckpateea. Luckpateea Ramphul was my grandmother. Work on sugarplantations
was fierce in those days. After serving his master for 8 years, Ramphul collapsed and
passed away at the age of 39. His wife and daughter were left to their own fate.
Under the watchfull eye of the british and with the help of the locale political elite of
Mauritius, the relatives of E. Montocchio were appointed as policy makers of the
Mauritian sugar industry. Instead of condemnation, Montocchio's relatives were assigned
to the National bank of the island. Meanwhile, the mauritian politicians, specially those
who were wearing the boots of our former masters kept on adding to what the british had
left behind. Those who dont know the history are condemned to repeat it!!!!!!!!!
